Split

Saturday 3rd October

Left Dubrovnik for Split driving along the coast road. It looks as though 90% of the households make their income from renting out rooms - virtually every house had a sign out " Camera, zimmer, sobe, rooms" (covering all bases!) Slow going to do 200k and we finally got to Split and found a hotel about 1pm. Hotel was 10 minute walk to Diocletian Palace precinct- the main event in Split- the old centre of Split being built on top of the basement area of the palace. The basement is open to the public and very interesting to walk through, being very complete Roman ruins and some of the original gates of the palace are still preserved at ground level.
Walking around the old area and the harbour took up the rest of the afternoon, by then time for tea, such a nice fish tea... I have had the nicest whole grilled fish (bream perhaps?) in Croatia... Frank doesn't know what he is missing out on!

The next morning in Dubrovnik,  another liner passing our cove
