Croatia impressions

Thursday 1st Oct

Long trip from Porec to Dubrovnik, around 700k. A long and boring one once we got onto the southward freeway.... traffic sparse, lots of tunnels.. if only we had realised how things would pick up traffic-wise as we approached Dubrovnik we would have appreciated it more. However the last 100k to Dubrovnik was awful, one lane, trucks, buses etc, views of the Adriatic very nice, but hard to appreciate....and then when we got to Dubrovnik.... well the traffic was horrendous... Things were a bit tense and I was a gibbering mess by the time we found a hotel.

The scenery on the way down was pretty dull, little settlements of houses in the middle of scrub, goodness knows how they make a living. More forest up north, but pretty scrubby the more south we went. Reminded me a bit of driving up the east cost of Italy from the south,ie not very attractive.

Anyway well-earned beer when we settled into hotel - on hotel road heaven Masarykov something, on a nice cove, good sea view from balcony and very convenient as bus to the old town stops out the front.

Scenery from freeway northern Croatia- looked pretty inhospitable

See brown sign warning of bears and wolves in the tunnel

View to islands from hairy coast road

Coastal town north of Dubrovnik

More of the same

Little houses along the road

View from our balcony Dubrovnik Hotel

Liner in the bay from balcony Dubrovnik
