Wednesday 30th Seop
Off crack of dawn - 10am for big drive to Croatia... sounds easy doesn't it? But, dio bon, the A4 to Trieste while it only took us about an hour, aged me at least by 5 years. We stopped at a petrol station before Trieste for more money removal. A vignette is required in case you wander onto Slovenian tollroads and for Croatia a spare lightbulb set for the car and a firstaid kit!! Frank is still debating whether he was ripped off...he reckons we didn't see the sign about the first aid kit anywhere else... but as if we could read it! They tell us that english is the international language but tell that to the Croats, in fact the local language seems to call all the places by different names.
On the advice of someones boyfriend we headed for Porec or Parenzo as also referred to. It's on the Istria peninsula and on first entry I was thinking what the hell- a real tourist trap, but it turned out OK with a nice walk on the water front and an old centre like a little Venice, without the canals, it's probably the same age. Really it is tourist heaven, lots of Italians (Ferries to and from Venice) and Germans from the voices heard as walking around.
Had a lovely dinner in town, fish is the order of the day around here and topnotch. The waiter's sister lives in Melbourne we discovered.
